Our quick take

The X1 Pro is unusual: most projectors make you buy and wire up sound separately, but this one ships as a complete cinema system. The headline numbers are strong for a portable unit – 3,500 ANSI lumens, true 4K via Texas Instruments' XPR pixel-shifting, and Dolby Vision plus Dolby Atmos together, which Anker says is a first for a portable projector.

The catch is size and price. At 32.8 kg (72.4 lb) it's "portable" in the sense of rolling between rooms or onto a patio, not carrying in a bag, and it sits at the very top end of consumer projector pricing. If you already own a good soundbar or AV receiver, a standalone 4K projector will cost a lot less.

We haven't tested this unit hands-on. This page summarizes Anker's published specifications and independent coverage so you can decide whether it's worth a closer look.

Who it's for

A good fit if you…

  • Want a 100–200″ picture without a permanent install
  • Don't have, or don't want, a separate surround sound system
  • Host movie nights, sports or karaoke and like to move the setup around
  • Watch a lot of Dolby Vision content on streaming apps

Probably skip it if you…

  • Need something you can carry in a bag or take traveling
  • Already own a high-end soundbar or receiver
  • Want a short-throw unit that sits right against the wall
  • Are working to a mid-range budget

What stands out

Picture

The X1 Pro uses the same optical engine as Anker's standalone Nebula X1: a triple RGB laser light source with a 0.47-inch DLP chip and XPR pixel shifting to reach a 3840 × 2160 image. Anker rates it at 3,500 ANSI lumens and 110% of the Rec. 2020 color space, with Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG support. The laser light source is rated for tens of thousands of hours, so there's no lamp to replace.

Sound

This is the main reason to choose the Pro over the regular X1. It packs a 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos system rated at 400 W total, including dual 5.25-inch woofers, and four surround speakers that detach and sit around the room wirelessly. There's also an HDMI eARC port, Bluetooth, and two wireless microphones for karaoke.

Setup

Auto focus, automatic vertical and horizontal keystone correction, and a motorized tilt of up to 25° mean you roll it in, point it at a wall or screen and let it line up the picture. The throw ratio of 0.9–1.5:1 with motorized zoom gives you some flexibility on how far back it needs to sit. Built-in wheels and a telescopic handle make moving it between rooms practical.

Smart features

Google TV is built in, so the main streaming apps run directly on the projector, and it supports Google Cast for sending content from a phone.

Things to know before you buy

  • Weight: 32.8 kg (72.4 lb). The wheels help, but stairs are a two-person job.
  • Size: about 76 cm tall (30 in), so plan where it will live between uses.
  • Atmos from external devices: many players default to 2-channel PCM output, so you may need to change the audio setting on your source device to get full surround.
  • 3D: supported, but needs DLP Link 3D glasses, which aren't the same as TV 3D glasses.
  • Ambient light: 3,500 lumens is bright for a projector, but a dark room or an ambient-light-rejecting screen still gives the best picture.

Questions people ask

Is the Nebula X1 Pro the same as the Nebula X1?

The projector part is the same 4K triple-laser engine. The Pro adds the built-in 7.1.4 Atmos speaker system, the removable surround speakers, karaoke microphones, wheels and handle.

Is it Anker or Soundcore?

Both. Anker moved its Nebula projectors under its Soundcore audio brand, so you'll see it listed as "Soundcore Nebula X1 Pro" or "Anker Nebula X1 Pro". It's the same product.

Do I need a screen?

No, it will project onto a smooth, light-colored wall. A proper screen, especially an ambient-light-rejecting one, will give better contrast in rooms that aren't fully dark.

Can I use it outdoors?

Yes, for evening use. The wheels and built-in sound make it practical for garden movie nights, but it needs mains power and should be kept dry.

Where does the price come from?

We don't sell anything ourselves. The price, delivery and returns are all handled by Amazon, so the figure on Amazon at the time you buy is the one that applies.
